Research Summary
This FWO‑funded project aims to improve care for prostate cancer patients undergoing radiotherapy by developing innovative computational methods to detect and prevent radiation‑induced side effects before they become clinically apparent. Building on a carefully selected and organised dataset of prostate cancer patients at UZGent (EC‑approved), our research focuses on early detection and personalized risk assessment of radiation‑related side effects
We will combine computational modeling, biomarker exploration, and medical image analysis to uncover multimodal patterns associated with radiation‑related side effects. These patterns will help capture differences in patient sensitivity and allow for earlier identification of individuals at higher risk.
In the longer term, this work aims to inform more personalized radiotherapy approaches that seek to reduce adverse effects while maintaining effective cancer treatment.
